Couple with BabyLaura and Joe just found out they will be having a second baby. This may be a difficult pregnancy with a c-section delivery. Laura and Joe have a lot of questions about services and charges for maternity care in the Charleston-Huntington area. They will use CompareCareWV™ to find:

• The range of charges for a normal delivery;
• The hospitals having experience in C-section deliveries, with or without complications; and,
• The location of neonatal intensive care units.

Laura clicks on Procedure on the CompareCareWV™ homepage. A new page appears and in box 1, she selects "Pregnancy and Childbirth". In box 2, she selects "Vaginal delivery normal", and then clicks Get Chart. Next, in box 1 she will enter her home zip code, choose the distance she is willing to travel for care and then click Submit. In box 1 , all the hospitals within that mileage will be listed. Laura can choose some of those or all of them; then she clicks on Get Chart. Laura will then see a chart displaying how much the WV hospitals within her chosen travel range offering maternity services charge for normal births.

Laura could also begin her search by clicking on Hospital on the CompareCareWV™ homepage. In box 1, she will enter her home zip code, choose the distance she is willing to travel for care and then click Submit. In box 2, all the hospitals within that mileage will be listed. Laura can choose some of those or all of them; then she clicks on Submit. Laura then follows the steps for choosing her procedure of normal delivery and clicks Get Chart. Laura will then see a chart for normal vaginal delivery, but with only her chosen hospitals listed.

Laura follows the same steps to see what hospitals perform C-section deliveries and how much each charges.

Joe wants to know where the state’s neonatal intensive care units (NICU) are located. Joe clicks on the WV Hospital Services & Department tab on the CompareCareWV™ homepage. In this section, Joe can choose neonatal intensive care to see where the hospitals are located on a map, or he can choose to see all WV hospitals, displayed in a grid, showing which ones have NICUs.

Now, Laura and Joe can make a more informed decision using the information provided by CompareCareWV™.
